Your task in this wiki project----

I haven't found a Lab Safety manual written by kids and for kids.  You're about to change that!!!!

You and your partner will describe and illustrate one of the rules.  Each pair will create a new wiki page for our class manual.  The tricky part is your partner is in the other science class, so you'll have to leave comments for each other on your page to collaborate on this assignment.

If you'd like to see a short video clip that will introduce you to this wiki, click here.  When you're finished, click the BACK button to return to this page.

Lab Safety is very important.

The rules are simple so that you can remember them and follow them.  Here they are....

  1. Stay at your lab table unless you are the Materials Manager for that lab.
  2. Keep your lab notebook out and put everything else away.  Use the desk's baskets to store your items.  If they don't fit, take them back to your locker.  Nothing should be on the floor.
  3. Never taste or eat anything.
  4. Wear your goggles at all times when they are required in the lab.
  5. Carry all glassware with two hands.  If something breaks, DON'T try and clean it up.  Find Mrs. Ratzel immediately and have her help you.
  6. Wear protective clothing when appropriate.  That means a working T-shirt to protect your clothes, goggles for your eyes, tying back your hair if we are using a flame, oven mits if we are heating up things and so on.  Mrs. Ratzel will notify you before each lab as to what you need to wear.
  7. If necessary use the Fire Blanket, Fire Extinguisher or Eye Wash.  Notify Mrs. Ratzel immediately.
  8. Use two-inch voices during the lab.
  9. No horseplay.
